The competition takes place every other year and alternates between presenting string quartets and piano trios. An academy for the forthcoming year's ensemble type is arranged in the years between the competitions. The competition takes place during the Trondheim Chamber Music Festival, allowing both jury members and candidates to participate and contribute into the very special festival atmosphere.

Read moreThe International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition was founded in Oslo in 2000, by professor Einar Steen-Nøkleberg. In 2012 the competition moved to Bergen and composer Edvard Grieg's home. Situated in Troldhaugen, candidates and audience have the unique opportunity to experience Grieg´s music in the very surroundings it was created. The final concert takes place in Grieghallen with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Queen Sonja International Music Competition is a prestigious competition, held in Oslo every two years for singers from around the world. Princess Astrid International Music Competition

Established in 1953, the biennial competition hosted by the Trondheim Symfoniorkester & Opera rotates between violin and conducting. Assembling a worldwide scope of young talents as well as a distinguished jury, Princess Astrid IMC provides career opportunities to its participants and high-quality concerts to its audience. HH Princess Astrid, Mrs Ferner of Norway is royal patron of the competition.
